Time Signatures in Music: 3/4 and 2/4 Time Signatures – A Rhythm Lesson for Beginners
The top number of a time signature indicates number of beats in a measure and bottom number indicates which note gets one beat.

This piano lesson covers how count rhythms in three four and two four time signature. The other lessons in this series introduced other time signatures such as four four, quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, dotted quarter notes, and mixed rhythms. Counting in 2/4 time signature means that you will have two beats per measure and that the quarter note gets one beat. In 3/4 time signature, you will have three beats per measure and the quarter note will still get one count. To review; a quarter note gets one beat, a half note gets two counts, a whole note gets four beats, an eighth note only gets one half of a count and the sixteenth note gets one quarter of a count. Being able to count rhythms takes a lot of practice and it is a good idea to read different types of rhythms to get accustomed to different patterns. It should be noted that it is common to use the word meter, rhythm, and time signature interchangeably.
